Parents' Corner

Short, steady sessions work best. Here is a simple way to fit FFKidz into your homeschool day.

A simple daily rhythm

Daily mission15 minThree short FFKidz tasks to start the day
Reading20 minA real book, read together or alone
Move30+ minPlay outside, ride a bike, help in the garden
Practice15 minUse the weekly practice tip away from the screen
Make something20 minDrawing, building, or the Project Friday task
Talk it over10 minAsk what they learned and what was tricky

Goals by grade

Nursery and KG

  • Know colors, shapes and animal names
  • Count to 10 in Nursery and to 20 in KG
  • Know every letter, big and small, and trace them

Grades 1 and 2

  • Read simple books on their own
  • Add and subtract within 20, then 100
  • Follow a short set of steps, like a first coding puzzle

Grade 3

  • Read chapter books and retell the story
  • Know times tables and start simple fractions
  • Use loops in block coding

Grades 4 and 5

  • Read longer texts and explain the main idea
  • Multiply and divide bigger numbers, work with fractions and decimals
  • Build small games and try their first lines of Python

Tips that work

  • Keep screen time short. One mission a day is plenty. Then practice the same skill off screen.
  • Let each subject move at its own pace. Being ahead in math and slower in reading is normal.
  • Praise effort. "You kept trying" builds more confidence than "You're so smart".
  • Follow their interest. Loves camels? Do a camel word problem together.
  • Stop while it's fun. End before they get tired.

Off-screen ideas

  • Shop together and let your child count the change
  • Measure things around the house with a ruler
  • Read a recipe out loud and cook it together
  • Write a short letter to a grandparent
  • Draw a map of your street or your home
  • Plant a seed and keep a growing diary
